Students learning becomes more powerful if there is a connection between their home and school environment.
Home School Connection for Reading
If I am working with your student in reading more often than not, I will send home a book baggie. Please be sure to ask your child about what's inside. Most often there will be the book or books that we read earlier that day as well as learning cards. In sending these home, I expect that your student will read them to you and to themselves; even their siblings or neighbors or extended family on FaceTime if your child is so inclined.
Book Baggies
This cloth bag should come home everyday with your student. Once your kid has read the books a few times, please put the baggie in your child's backpack for use at school the following day.
Books
The books need to be cared for responsibly. They are being shared by many students and we need the books to last as many years as possible. Please do not allow students to write or draw in the books or on the book covers.
Learning Cards
These learning cards represent learning that your student is currently focused on. The cards may have high frequency words, letter-sound association, or spelling pattern rules. Your student should be able to recognize the card. The goal of practicing recognizing the letters, spelling patterns and high frequency words is so that your student may read more accurately, fluently, and confidently. Also, as student's begin to recognize more and more words, they are more able to spend their brain power on keeping track of their understanding of the text. Please make this practice at home fun and positive. See suggestions in Links.
Home School Connection for Math
Students who work with me for math small group instruction in Kindergarten most often need support with rote counting and counting objects. I will be in touch with you about the skill your kid is working on and how you can practice in a fun supportive way at home. This practice should take the student no more than 5 to 10 minutes and it will give you an eye into the specific skill your child is trying to master.
